The 4 euro silver coin 'Black Lizard? (Black Lizard) was issued in 2024 by the Croatian National Bank in cooperation with the Croatian Mint. It is the second issue in the 'Autochthonous Croatia' series.
Motif and meaning
The coin features the black lizard(Podarcis melisellensis melisellensis), an endemic species of the Croatian island of Brusnik. The animal is a symbol of nature conservation and biodiversity.
- Obverse: Shows a detailed relief of the lizard from above, supplemented by schematic drawings reminiscent of zoological expedition notes from the 19th century.
- Reverse: Depicts the head of the lizard in front of a topographical map of the island of Brusnik and suggested sea waves.
